Pele, Goddess of the Volcano, requests her sister, Hi‘iaka, to bring her love, Lohi‘au, to her. Hi‘iaka endures many perils along her journey to find Lohi‘au. They fall in love but remain loyal to Pele. Upon their return, they discovered that enraged Pele had burned Hi‘iaka’s beloved Ohia tree groves and killed her friend, Hopoe. Eventually all is forgiven and at long last Hi‘iaka and Lohiau are united in lasting love.
