A beautiful young couple was deeply in love.  The man’s name is “Ohia”, the woman’s, “Lehua”.  The Goddess, Pele desires “Ohia” but is spurned.  In anger she turns “Ohia” into a tree.  “Lehua”, heartbroken, is transformed into a flower and placed on the tree by the other Gods.  It is said, if a Lehua blossom is plucked, it will rain, for “Lehua” cannot bear to be parted from “Ohia”.
